South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff didn’t immediately specify the number of missiles detected or how far they flew.
The launches came days after North Korean leader Kim Jong Un supervised a flight test of the country’s newest intercontinental ballistic missile designed to reach the U.S. mainland.
North Korea on Thursday tested the newly developed Hwasong-19 ICBM, which flew higher and stayed in the air longer than any other missile it has fired.
The launch came hours before Americans head to the polls for the presidential election Tuesday (U.S. time).
